Claire and Margot take a ride on the polar express!
We will miss Ms. Anna!
Ms. Anna, our 8th grade intern was so special!
Hello!
This week we enjoyed learning about 3 new holiday's and starting a new math unit!
Please do not forget that we will be having our gingerbread house decorating event December 17th at 1;00. Please let me know if a family member cannot come for your child! Parents are most definitely invited to help decorate. :) We will also have pajama day December 18th which is the last school day before break.
Math workshop:
We started a new math unit called nonstandard measurement. We love measuring things with items from the classroom! In kindergarten we do not use rulers, yard sticks and other types of standard measuring units. We use candles, unifix cubes, blocks, marker, glue sticks etc.
We measured various items around the classroom, we measured gingerbread houses with gum drops and we also took a giant foot and measured things with the giant foot (and our own foot too).
Reader's Workshop:
We learned a new site word this week: do! We also worked in our handwriting without tears books.
Writer's Workshop:
We are still working on patterned books! We also spent time editing a few books in our writing folders this week.
Thematic Unit:
We are still studying holiday's around the world. This week we studied Las Posadas, Sinterklaas and Kwanza.
We rotated through several centers:
1. Make a poinsettia to represent Las Posadas.
2. Illustrate the Sinterklaas book.
3. Make a klompen with hay and carrots for Sinterklaas.
4. Make Kwanza candles out of construction paper and tissue paper.
**Do not forget about the gingerbread house decorating and pajama day!
Have a happy weekend!
Mrs. Schultz
