December 9th-December 13th

Hello!

Another week flew by. I cannot believe that next week we only go two and a half days before break begins! We also have our first field trip. Thanks to everyone who signed up! We will not have another sign up genius sent out as it was already sent out for Friday and the rest of next week. Please remember to come in for the gingerbread house decorating on Tuesday December 17th from 1:00-2:00. There will be lots of candy!!

Literacy:

Writer’s workshop was all about patterned writing. This is tough right now! We read several patterned books and tried to write our own patterned book. Patterned books are books that repeat themselves or have a patter. One of our favorite patterned books we read was “If You Take a Mouse to the Movies.”

We also continued to perfect our skills with rhyming. We played even more rhyming games and tried to find rhyming words in our books. We also focused on a new site word this week…the word “of”! Several kids noticed that the “f” in “of” sounds like it should be a “v.” Those tricky site words!!

Math:

We continued our unit of measurement. We measured our name and even looked to see how many vowels and consonants we have in our name! We measured big things and small things. We also got to measure around the room using our own traced foot. This related to last week’s lesson about the king’s foot. Ask your child about that!

Centers:

We finished Netherlands on Tuesday, moved to Las Posadas on Wednesday and started Christmas on Thursday. So many holiday traditions to study! We are keeping all of their Christmas crafts here because there are so many. At the end of that unit we will send one big bag home!

I will probably send out a short blog post next week via email since it is a short week. Look for that email on Tuesday or Wednesday.  Remember next Wednesday is a half day and then we are out until January 2nd. School resumes January 2nd.

Do not forget that Friday is PJ day again!! Yahoo!

Hugs,

Mrs. Schultz
