February 16th-19th

**I forgot to send a sign up genius for this week. Sorry about that! Next week we will be going to the Laurel's Nursing Home so sign up to go if you can.

Hello again! It has been a great week. Thank you all for coming to the art gallery. It was truly beautiful to sit back and watch.

Thematic Centers:

This week we put finishing touches on our artwork for the gallery. We also made welcome cards for our families for the art gallery! We worked on our bare book pages for our artist unit as well. We will begin our Author's unit on Monday.

Reader's Workshop:

We learned a new sight word this week: of! We had a blast looking for this word while reading the morning message, while we were reading during free choice time and in our sight word books. We worked in our Handwriting Without Tears books as well.

Math Workshop:

We played a few new games this week while also keeping up with our range cards. We played Race to 50, Seek and Find and reviewed 2D and 3D shapes while building with geo boards and pattern blocks.

Race to 50: Roll a dice and each time you roll move your game marker to the new number. The first one to get to 50 wins!

Seek and Find: On a 100's chart there are missing numbers that have been replaced with sea animals. On a separate sheet you have to find that sea animal and then record what number is supposed to be in its place.

Writer's Workshop: We continued to work on How To books and edited a few from last week!

Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Schultz

February 8th-10th

Announcements:

Please continue to check your child for lice each day. This is so important! I know everyone is busy, but we cannot do this without your help.

Please send in a heavy coat, hat and mittens for recess! I know keeping up with coats, hats and mittens can be difficult but it is very cold.

Art Gallery Crawl: February 18th at 11:00 in our classroom. You will be blown away by the artwork!

Field Trip: February 23rd **We are heading to the nursing home again and would love your help.

No school: THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY due to optional parent/teacher conferences. No school MONDAY as it is a holiday.

Hello and happy short week (again).

We had a busy week and we are getting ready for our gallery crawl on February 18th.

Thematic Centers:

We are still working on Mary Cassat centers this week. The mom/baby pictures are taking a really long time but they look beautiful.

Reader's Workshop:

We worked on a new poem this week called "Hearts" for Valentine's Day. We also learned a new sight word this week: was. Please review site words with your child when you can. Seeing them over and over is really helpful! These tricky words cannot be "sounded out," they just need to be memorized.

We also made sight word rings for everyone to study their sight words! These need to stay in the red folders and come back and forth everyday. Each time we learn a new word, we will add it to the ring.

Math Workshop:

We learned about 2D and 3D shapes this week!

2D shapes we reviewed: square, rectangle, triangle, rhombus (diamond), hexagon, trapezoid, circle and oval.
3D shapes we reviewed: cone, cylinder, cube, rectangular prism, pyramid and sphere.

We built 2D shapes on the Geo Boards using the pegs and rubber bands. We also played a matching game where we had to match the object to the actual shape. Example: Soccer ball would be matched to the sphere.

Writer's Workshop:

This week we learned about "How To" books. These books explain how to do something! You could write a how to book about how to bake brownies, ride a bike, play soccer, pack for a trip, get dressed etc. These are super fun! Everyone is capable of teaching us "how to" do something.

We have been loving the science experiments lately!

Have a happy weekend,
Mrs. Schultz
