Please continue to check your child for lice each day. This is so important! I know everyone is busy, but we cannot do this without your help.

Please send in a heavy coat, hat and mittens for recess! I know keeping up with coats, hats and mittens can be difficult but it is very cold.

Field Trip: February 23rd **We are heading to the nursing home again and would love your help.

No school: THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY due to optional parent/teacher conferences. No school MONDAY as it is a holiday.

Hello and happy short week (again).

We had a busy week and we are getting ready for our gallery crawl on February 18th.

Thematic Centers:

We are still working on Mary Cassat centers this week. The mom/baby pictures are taking a really long time but they look beautiful.

Reader's Workshop:

We worked on a new poem this week called "Hearts" for Valentine's Day. We also learned a new sight word this week: was. Please review site words with your child when you can. Seeing them over and over is really helpful! These tricky words cannot be "sounded out," they just need to be memorized.

We also made sight word rings for everyone to study their sight words! These need to stay in the red folders and come back and forth everyday. Each time we learn a new word, we will add it to the ring.

Math Workshop:

We learned about 2D and 3D shapes this week!

2D shapes we reviewed: square, rectangle, triangle, rhombus (diamond), hexagon, trapezoid, circle and oval.
3D shapes we reviewed: cone, cylinder, cube, rectangular prism, pyramid and sphere.

We built 2D shapes on the Geo Boards using the pegs and rubber bands. We also played a matching game where we had to match the object to the actual shape. Example: Soccer ball would be matched to the sphere.

Writer's Workshop:

This week we learned about "How To" books. These books explain how to do something! You could write a how to book about how to bake brownies, ride a bike, play soccer, pack for a trip, get dressed etc. These are super fun! Everyone is capable of teaching us "how to" do something.

We have been loving the science experiments lately!

Have a happy weekend,
Mrs. Schultz
