February 29th-March 4th
Hello,
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
**We will be celebrating Saint Patrick's Day on March 17th. We are going to try to catch a leprechaun that day! Please send leprechaun traps to school by March 16th. You can make these traps out of anything you wish! Shoe boxes, cereal boxes, coffee containers etc. Paint it, add stickers, or "gold" or anything you wish to make your leprechaun come in your trap! Thank you!
We had an awesome week.
Thematic Centers:
This week we studied Dr. Seuss! His books are full of rhymes and silly characters. We rotated through 4 centers:
1. Make OObleck! So fun!
2. Make Thing 1 and Thing 2 puppets and act out the story "A Cat in the Hat."
3. Illustrate the Cat in the Hat rhyming book and create your own rhyme at the end.
4. Make a Dr. Seuss hat.
Reader's Workshop:
Everyone did great with their guided reading books this week! We also learned a new site word this week: with. We worked on numbers 1-9 in our handwriting books and learned a new poem.
Math Workshop:
We learned two new math games this week: Ways to Make and Ten Frame Toss.
Ways to Make: Come up with as many ways to make a number as possible and record on your game board. Fill in the 10 frame that matches!
Ten Frame Toss: Toss: Toss 10 doubled sided counters (one color on one side and a different color on the other side). Color in the ten frame using the colors that the counter landed on! Make an addition sentence to match.
Writer's Workshop:
This month's theme is informational texts! We learned about how to write stories that give information. We loved this!
**We have our very first yoga lesson on Friday so there will be no Sci Fri this week. So neat!
Hugs,
Mrs. Schultz
