August 24-28
Hello! It has been a great week yet again! I have a few reminders and suggestions for the upcoming weeks. We really need everyone to send in a water bottle every day. At CSD we focus on healthy habits for healthy bodies. We drink water all throughout the day. If we can get everyone to remember this each week, we would really appreciate it! We would also appreciate healthy snack options. We try to encourage children to eat healthy items for snack since it is so early in the morning. If you can help with this by talking with your children at home too, we would love it! Carpool… Carpool will get better I promise. If you can get to carpool a little earlier this year while you have a kindergartner it would be so helpful. It is so hard for these tiny ones to sit for 30-45 minutes waiting on their name to be called. It is a long time to sit still and be quiet! We totally understand this is not always possible, but we have had parents ask what is best. Earlier is definitely best while they are this little!
Math:
We explored more manipulates (dice, base ten blocks and teddy bear counters), talked about how math centers will run and we also played two games. We played roll and record and roll and cover. Both games were easy to play! For children who needed a challenge, we were also able to add in some addition. Roll and record uses a dice. Children roll the dice and mark which number they rolled. The first number to fill the whole column wins. Roll and cover is very similar. Children take a dice and cover the number with an item to show that number has already been rolled. The game is over once all the numbers are covered.
Reading/Thematic Unit:
We have been busy learning many different nursery rhymes! We are learning to "read" the paper books and poems that we have received. We are studying The Itsy Bitsy Spider this week and Baa Baa Black Sheep. We also started learning the Humpty Dumpty rhyme too. We started our handwriting curriculum this week too (it is called Handwriting Without Tears). We are working on correct pencil girls, starting our letters at the top. working on writing our name with a beginning capitol letter and the rest lowercase and listening to stories on the carpet.
We have also started something new! We started Marvelous Me. Each day someone is picked to be our "Marvelous Me." We learn all about that person by asking a bunch of questions. We talk about letters in their names, sounds, syllables etc. We then make a book all about them! Each person illustrates a picture of something that describes them and then that child gets to take their book home. It is suuupppppeeerrr fun and helps us get to know our classmates.
Have a great week! Be looking out for the volunteer lists coming out in a couple of weeks. Thanks to everyone who sent in stuff from our "wish list!!"
Hugs,
Mrs. Schultz

Our Frist Week!
Hello!
What a great week we have had. We have been busy going over classroom procedures and expectations as well as learning everyone's names! We also experienced a sneaky gingerbread man coming alive in our classroom and running all over the school. We chased him but by the time we got back to our classroom he was already back in his place and he had left us treats! How fun.
Math:
We also explored two math manipulatives that we will be using a lot this year. We played with pattern blocks and unifix cubes. Many children recognized these from pre school! We also made our very first class graph. We graphed our ages. The 5 column had the most and the 6 column had the least. We played our very first math game called Gingerbread Man Roll and Record. Each person received their very own game board and a dice. Each time you roll, you mark with column it goes in. The game is over once one column is full! Many of us were having so much fun that we decided to cover the whole board. :)
Reading:
One of our favorite activities from this week was reading Eliza's Kindergarten Surpirse. It is a story about a little girl who goes to kindergarten and misses her mommy very much! As she goes through her school day, she collects items that remind her of her mommy. By the time the day is over she has made a clothespin doll that looks just like her mom! We decided that we would make one too. We made moms, dads, bothers, sisters, grandpas and grandmas. Everyone can bring this to school and when they miss their special person, they can pull him or her out of their book bag and the person feels right their with them! We read so many other back to school books too!
We started learning a new finger play and glued our first poem into our poetry notebook. Here it is below….
We took pictures but our class camera USB plug is missing somehow so we cannot upload them to the computer! We will be sure to add class photos to the blog next week.
**Please remember a water bottle each day. It is very hot and the children often take sips of water all throughout the day. Thank you for helping us stay hydrated!
Have a great weekend!

Welcome to Kindergarten!
Hello kindergarten families!
Each week a blog post will be sent out through email. This blog post will have important information as well as a recap of what we did that week. This week I am choosing to do a little intro of myself and Ms. Alicia so you can get to know us a little bit. Please save this link so that you can have it to check for important announcements and dates. Don't forget about the ice cream social August 13th at 5pm. You can take a tour of the classroom and eat a yummy treat! If you walk through the front doors and go straight down, our classroom is the last one on the right. If you have forgotten your lemonade drop in time, staggered entry day or covenant conference time, please email me. It will also be posted outside of our classroom. Covenant conferences are August 13th and 14th. Each conference is about 30 minutes. You may bring your forms and class supplies then. Lemonade Drop in is August 17th. You picked a 9, 10 or 11 am slot. Staggered entry is August 18th, 19th or 20th. Remember staggered entry is your child's first full day but they are only with a few of their classmates. August 21st is our first full day as a family! School hours are: 8:15-2:45.
Welcome to our class! Ms. Alicia and I are so excited to meet you. We wanted to introduce ourselves before we met all of you. My name is Mrs. Schultz! My husband Jack and I have a black lab named Penny. She goes everywhere with us! Jack and I met at East Carolina University and we are huge Pirate fans. Jack played football for ECU, so we go to every home football game. You will often find me wearing purple and gold. ;) We live in Huntersville, on exit 23 in Vermillion. We both enjoy taking Penny to the lake, whitewater rafting, going to the beach and trying new restaurants.
We look forward to meeting you soon!
Hugs,
Mrs. Schultz and Ms. Alicia
