August 24-28
Hello! It has been a great week yet again! I have a few reminders and suggestions for the upcoming weeks. We really need everyone to send in a water bottle every day. At CSD we focus on healthy habits for healthy bodies. We drink water all throughout the day. If we can get everyone to remember this each week, we would really appreciate it! We would also appreciate healthy snack options. We try to encourage children to eat healthy items for snack since it is so early in the morning. If you can help with this by talking with your children at home too, we would love it! Carpool… Carpool will get better I promise. If you can get to carpool a little earlier this year while you have a kindergartner it would be so helpful. It is so hard for these tiny ones to sit for 30-45 minutes waiting on their name to be called. It is a long time to sit still and be quiet! We totally understand this is not always possible, but we have had parents ask what is best. Earlier is definitely best while they are this little!
Math:
We explored more manipulates (dice, base ten blocks and teddy bear counters), talked about how math centers will run and we also played two games. We played roll and record and roll and cover. Both games were easy to play! For children who needed a challenge, we were also able to add in some addition. Roll and record uses a dice. Children roll the dice and mark which number they rolled. The first number to fill the whole column wins. Roll and cover is very similar. Children take a dice and cover the number with an item to show that number has already been rolled. The game is over once all the numbers are covered.
Reading/Thematic Unit:
We have been busy learning many different nursery rhymes! We are learning to "read" the paper books and poems that we have received. We are studying The Itsy Bitsy Spider this week and Baa Baa Black Sheep. We also started learning the Humpty Dumpty rhyme too. We started our handwriting curriculum this week too (it is called Handwriting Without Tears). We are working on correct pencil girls, starting our letters at the top. working on writing our name with a beginning capitol letter and the rest lowercase and listening to stories on the carpet.
We have also started something new! We started Marvelous Me. Each day someone is picked to be our "Marvelous Me." We learn all about that person by asking a bunch of questions. We talk about letters in their names, sounds, syllables etc. We then make a book all about them! Each person illustrates a picture of something that describes them and then that child gets to take their book home. It is suuupppppeeerrr fun and helps us get to know our classmates.
Have a great week! Be looking out for the volunteer lists coming out in a couple of weeks. Thanks to everyone who sent in stuff from our "wish list!!"
Hugs,
Mrs. Schultz
