Hello!

Don't forget to send in leprechaun traps! We want these by March 16th.

We got the date for the Raptor Center field trip. It will be April 21st. So add that date to the calendar! We will board the bus at 8:15 so everyone will need to be at school on time that day.

Math Workshop:

This week we worked on flipping equations to read like this: 4=2+2. We also learned how to turn these equations and number sentences in to subtraction problems. 4-2=2.

We filled in missing numbers on a 100's board and also filled in numbers of missing number pieces. Each puzzle had numbers missing above, below or to the right or left of it. Using a 100's board we had to fill in the missing numbers around the given number.

Reader's Workshop:

We learned a new sight word this week: has. We also continued our guided reading lessons. Please review the sight words with your child! This helps with reading. We re-read the same poem as last week because it was a little bit longer and we needed more practice.

Writer's Workshop:

We learned how to add spaces between words. Write a word and put your finger down before you start writing the next word. We have discussed this before but really focussed on it this week! Please give a reminder when your child is not doing this at home!

Thematic Centers:

This week we studied Leo Lionni. His illustrations and the way he writes about animals reminded us of Eric Carle! We rotated through 4 centers.

1. Make a book in the style of Leo. Choose an animal and paint or scrape paper and begin crafting your book. These took a long time to make but were well worth it!
2. Make a mouse out of your finger prints like Fredrick ( a book we read) and create a couplet poem to describe him.
3. Read the book Little Blue and Little Yellow and we experimented with mixing primary colors to make new colors.
4. Read the book A Color of His Own and followed the directions of how to color your chameleon. Example: if you are the youngest, color your tail yellow. If you are the oldest, color your tail red.
