3 Billy Goats Gruff

Literacy Centers:

For such a short week, we had some great center activities. This week, we reviewed all the letter sounds with a fun song and a special "pointer finger". Our story for the week was The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We read three versions and compared the troll in each of them. We acted out the story, sequenced it and discussed the size of the goats.  The children created their own troll by tearing paper. This is a great activity to help strengthen their hands. The children also played a game where they helped the billy goat cross the bridge by reading a letter and basic sight words. We focused on the G sound this week by saying different G words and telling a partner if the G sound was in the beginning, middle or end of the word. The children also worked on a great visual activity where they had to look at a shape pattern and copy the pattern. They then used rubber bands to make the same pattern on a Geo board. This activity helps with visual processing and visual memory. These are very important skills to have for reading!

Science/Math
We began making bridges this week and we will continue this next week as well. We will use many different materials to make the bridges and see if it can withstand our goats crossing.

Library and Reading Buddies:

Once a month we will participate in these two activities. They happened to fall on the same day this month. Beth, from the Davidson library came in and we started our reading buddies with Mrs. Washam's second grade class! The children were amazing and had some great reading experiences!

I promise there will be a sign up sheet for volunteers next week. Please turn in any
CSD cards and money for the school's fundraiser as soon as possible!

I hope everyone enjoys the long break. Safe travels and see you Monday!

Mrs. Hazlett
