Class climate:
The class as a whole has our classroom routine down pat! We continue to work on following directions and voice level. I am hopeful that we will be able to go to the park starting the last week in September. It is essential for them to be able to follow directions while walking down the sidewalk and being near the pond and we will continue to work on those skills. Any conversations that you would like to have at home concerning these skills would be very helpful. My goal for the first park walk is to have three volunteers.
We have "adopted" a new volunteer in our class. Addie is in the 8th grade at CSD and she will be helping out in our class each Friday for most of the day. Please help us welcome Addie to our classroom!
Please remember to return the class library books each morning.
I want to take this time as well to thank all of you for the amazing lunches and snacks you pack your child. They are so healthy! I also want to mention that I have observed the school lunches and they also look amazing. Please make sure you check out the hot lunch menu! The link to order hot lunch for your child is on the CSD website.
We continue to learn about each other everyday and I sent home the class book that will be making its way to each of you! I am so enjoying getting to know the kids and the hugs just make my day! Also, those children who arrive before 8:00 am are to go to the gym now. They are collected at 8:00 and brought to our classroom.
Marvelous Me!!!!!
We will start learning all about our friends next week with this fun and interactive activity. Marvelous Me will focus on one child each week. We will learn to recognize, write and spell each child's name. This activity allows us to focus on letter and sound recognition, handwriting, chunking words and syllables.
Readers Workshop:
This week, we used our first fairy tale The Three Little Pigs to learn about character, setting and sequence. The children drew amazing watercolor pigs, they built houses out of Legos, sticks, Lincoln Logs, sticks and play dough. We focused on number 4 and they made a great take home book about the The Three Little Pigs. We read three versions of the little pig story.
Math Centers:
We really focused on numbers 1-4 this week. We also filled in the September calendar. Which gave me a good baseline of the numbers they could and could not write. We made numbers out of sticks, they had to count out a specific number number of sticks and play dough to create a house. We did a lot of building! They also played a game called Big Bad Wolf. They took turns turning over numbers 1-20 and called out their number. If they turned over a wolf he gobbled up the number piggies.

Science:
This week in science we talked about prediction. The children had their first taste of group collaboration and they had to work together to build a house that the wolf couldn't blow down. They used marshmallows, gum drops, tooth picks and straws to construct their houses. Then the "wolf" (my hairdryer) came to blow the houses down. It was EPIC!
